Faldarroch Farm - Self Catering in Galloway
Sleeps 4/5 - Virtual Tour
Faldarroch is an unspoilt example of a complete Victorian small dairy farm, dating from the late Improvement era (c. 1830); it consists of the farm cottage and the steading, with byre, calf shed, cart shed and barn (now used for storing bicycles, outdoor clothing ), and a paddock and stackyard to the rear. It is situated a couple of miles from the sea at Port William, at the northern end of the Barrachan Estate, which retains its small-scale fields, mixed woodland and non-intensive grazing, so that wildlife – including red squirrels - abounds.
The cottage has been redesigned on eco-friendly principles : it is super-insulated, with underfloor heating powered by a wood-pellet boiler and solar electricity. The open plan farm kitchen with sitting area has a working Victorian range and wood-burning stove.
A master bedroom, with Victorian iron four poster, has a convenient hand-basin and its own stove; the bathroom has a shower over the roll-top bath, and there is a family room which has two box beds and a further single iron bed.
